...if you meet someone that visually reminds you of a previous acquaintance, how much does your relationship with that previous acquaintance affect the way you see this new person?
I'm going to say a great deal, at least at first. After a short while, I'm usually able to see past the looks. What's weird with me is that I usually find myself subconsciously judging people based on what actor/actress they look like! I find myself having crushes on women who look like actresses I'm attracted to. And there was one instance where a young man freaked me out because he looked like an evil Joaquin Phoenix.
You know, I agree with William in a lot of ways, but to further the point...
Usually I only judge people if it's in the negative. I know that sounds harsh, but it's true. I don't normally think someone reminds me of a very kind person so I see them as very kind. But bet your bottom dollar if I see someone who looks like someone I sincerely dislike...say...Greg Paulus...I look at them through narrow eyes and watch them closely, lest they try to make nice with me...I know better!
But I have thought a lot lately about people I'm attracted to in regards to looking like someone I know.
If I see someone who looks like someone I know, I'm more likely to think they're attractive. The strangest part is it has NOTHING to do with whether or not I think the person I know whom they resemble is attractive. I think it's a comfort thing, though. You're attracted to people with whom you're comfortable. So if it's a stranger who looks like someone you know, they've got a little headstart on the comfort-factor, and therefore that makes them slightly attractive. Make any sense?
