Ultimate band...
...put together musicians to create your ideal band. You are allowed to choose 4-5 members for this band and none of them are allowed to have previously been in the same band. Also, you can pull them from any year of their career/life (which is especially important for someone you may be considering who is deceased). Who would it be?

Jim James (my morning jacket) and Jeff Buckley would lead with guitars and vocals, Paul McCartney on bass, Keith Moon (the who) on drums, and Ray Manzarek (the doors) on the keys
I choose them not because of downright skill on instruments, but because of their songwriting innovation and ability to create music that simply blows your mind. Jim and Jeff have incredible, unique voices that would mesh well together. Both also play guitar and know when to rock out. Paul, simply for the sake of his legendary status, but also his uncanny ability at writing songs and synthesizing instruments. Ray Manzarek's innovation on the keyboard defined the Doors sound and I think would be a unique element to this band. Keith Moon was one of the most energetic and skilled drummers in history and would fit the style of the above 3 musicians incredibly well.
Oh yeah, and we'll throw in Will Ferrel on the cowbell.
