the thought that counts? How frequently?

Yes. It's intentions and not product that count. I think it's a very western idea that you have to produce an outcome, the end point rather than the process. But let's face it, even in art, it's the intention, the idea behind it that's where the real art happens. If you just have a piece of art without the intention, you can tell it's an empty void.

It also depends on the effort that comes with a thought. Otherwise you're just sitting on your ass having great ideas that are lost to nothing.

So the frequency of that holding true is directly related to the number of times the thought counted.

Maybe the first time or two if the thought is true, but ultimately no... just like good intentions and "meaning well" actually mean nothing. Faith (intentions, thoughts) without actions is dead, my friend.
