I think I would have to go with the 100 meter dash -- I mean, you would get to call yourself "the world's fastest man". (Some might argue that you would actually have to set the world record, but I say if you've won the gold medal at the Olympics, you're it)
By the way, did you see Bolt the other day? Downright ridiculous
As I'm looking into this question, though, it seems the Decathlon might be the even better choice -- apparently, the winner of the decathlon gets to be called "the world's greatest athlete"... not a bad distinction to have, and quite deserving I'd say.

Yeah, I might have to go Decathlon as well. Or one of the swimming medleys. The combination events are where it's at.
i have already answered this in person, but i feel called to answer it on here--
i would choose
best all around gymnastics (girls)
but i might have just added the modern pentathlon to that just because of its name.
Swimming just because Phelps is beginning to annoy me.
i would definitely move to jamaica and win the gold in bobsledding b.c i am so in love w the movie cool runnings that i want to marry it.
hands down weightlifting, because then you could call yourself the world's strongest man.
